Blue-Dyed Folio from a Manuscript of Poetry
  • Accession Number:AKM257
  • Place:Iran
  • Dimensions:24 x 16.7
  • Date:ca. 1470
  • Materials and Technique:ink, opaque watercolour, and gold on paper
  • Similar to the folio from the parchment "Blue Qur'an"(AKM248), this paper sheet is also coloured in deep indigo blue, but uses a different technique. While paper was usually coloured by immersing it in a tub of dye, such a treatment might cause dried, prepared parchment to crack or shrink. Instead, parchment was treated with repeated brushed applications of indigo.
