This painting depicts one of the highlights of the story of Khusrau and Shirin. Each fell in love upon hearing a description of the other, so they started a journey to find one another. Their first meeting occurred when Khusrau accidently saw Shirin bathing. They did not recognize each other and continued on their journey. In Nizami’s text, Shirin and Khusrau were described alone in this scene, but in this Indian version they are both pictured with companions.
