Experience the work of exemplary artists who show us the myriad ways cultures communicate through the performing arts. Linked thematically with HERE, the Museum’s first exhibition devoted to contemporary Canadian art, our Conversation Nation series of events offers a chance to see and hear innovative, inspiring, and socially relevant performances by renowned Canadian artists.
In the series launch, Moe Clark headlines an evening that brings together Métis, Inuit, and Arabic musical influences to create a multi-layered performance. Inuit throat singer Nina Segalowitz and oud player Katia Makdissi-Warren join Clark, a musical explorer whose subtle style of improvising pulls from gospel, folk, and spoken word. Hear the Métis artist’s enchanting lyrical voice and experience why CBC Radio describes her as “so smart and so funny and a remarkable performer.” Adding to the evening’s global tapestry are master Syrian oud player Nazih Borish, Turkish qanun player Didem Basar, and Québecois musicians Marianne Trudel on piano, Étienne LaFrance on upright bass, and Bertil Schulrabe on percussion.
This event includes same-day Museum admission.
