Our 2016 lecture series tackles the theme “Islam and Muslims in the 21st Century.” Featuring scholars and journalists who are leading thought-provoking conversations about Muslims and Islam today, the series addresses questions of identity and belonging, youth and integration, and immigration and settlement.

Ali Asani, Professor of Indo-Muslim and Islamic Religion and Cultures and Director of Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Islamic Studies Program at Harvard University, is an expert on the historical and contemporary Shia and Sufi devotional traditions in South Asia and the Ismaili mystical traditions. This presentation will explore the roots of Islamic mysticism and the influential role that the sonic, visual, and literary arts play in both fostering and expressing traditions of spirituality in Muslim cultures.
