Explore traditional motifs used in Ottoman carpet weaving, which emerged in 11th-century Anatolia (present day Turkey) and continue to the present day, during this hands-on four-week course!

Instructor Unaiza Karim employs a range of mediums to lead an exploration of the infinite repeat geometry of star motifs, medallions, and rotational symmetry that characterises the carpets of this region. This course also explores the floral motifs — among the most popular of these being the saz style of long sinuous leaves and stylized flowers — as well as the cintamani patterns that appear on a variety of objects designed by the court, including ceramics, silks, carpets, and manuscripts.
