Rebuild 2020 at the Aga Khan Museum

Special Event

Rebuild 2020 at the Aga Khan Museum

Date: Starting Summer 2020

Starting this summer, help lay the foundation for a better world alongside your friends at the Aga Khan Museum.

We warmly invite you to join us for Rebuild 2020, the Museum’s reimagined programming lineup to reconnect and reinvigorate communities through the arts. With new programs and social initiatives, we aim to provide a welcoming, safe haven for people and communities to rediscover hope in the wake of a global crisis.

The five pillars of our Rebuild 2020 programming are:

Restore...  our shared sense of safety with new, enhanced measures to ensure the well-being and comfort of everyone who enters the Museum.

Reconnect… with art, culture, and each other with exhibitions and experiences that stimulate the mind and nourish the soul.

Remember… what we’ve been through, who or what we lost, and who helped us along the way with new memorial projects and community-generated art displays.

The first Rebuild 2020 initiative to launch calls on us to remember. For the What’s Your Sanctuary? project, we asked art lovers in Canada and around the world to send in their original photos, short videos, and stories representing how — and with whom — they found sanctuary during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Using the powerful visuals and testimonial we received, our Curatorial team has created a new companion art display to the Sanctuary exhibition now showing in our second-floor gallery.

Reimagine… a brighter future for all with interactive art installations, talks, and more opportunities to express your creative vision for a better world.

Help piece together a lush portrait of togetherness and hope — and support people in need — by contributing to the Aga Khan Museum’s Blossom Together Community Tile Wall. We invite you to purchase a floral-themed tile at the Museum’s Shop and emblazon it with a message of hope. The tiles are $10 each, the proceeds from your purchase go to the North York Harvest Food Bank. Alternatively, you can donate a non-perishable food item in exchange for a tile.

For our new Courtyard Conversation talk series, we welcome speakers from the museum world and beyond to discuss their personal trajectory in work and life and how they envision building a better future post-COVID-19. Each hour-long session will feature a fascinating 20- to 25-minute talk from an Aga Khan Museum expert or special guest, who will then open the floor for questions and commentary. We invite you to ask questions, provide feedback, and share new ideas.

Rejoice… as we come together to celebrate each other, the beauty in our differences, and the common humanity we all share.
