FAQ: All you need to know about Dancing in the Park events in the Aga Khan Park
Back by popular demand! Our Dancing in the Park series returns for a second season with performances and films guaranteed to get you moving. These events take place in the public space of the Aga Khan Park, a venue for individuals and families to gather and enjoy social and cultural activities all season long. We look forward to welcoming you!
Our summer-long dance party continues with the rhythms of Colombia. Latin Grammy-nominated band Colectro and Noventa Dance Projects invite you to join in, lifting spirits (and feet!) with upbeat Colombian-Caribbean rhythms and moves.
Bios:
2017 Latin Grammy nominees Colectro are responsible for the creation of the “Coletera” concept, a type of music with multiple influences from the Caribbean region of Colombia — including son de garabato, bullerengue, son de negro, jalao, and chalupa — combined with world music genres like soukous and electronic music. This fusion makes of the Coletera an energetic experience filled with sonic emotions.
Noventa Dance Projects is the organization created by dancer and ethnographer Melissa Noventa. Throughout her career, she has accumulated a wide range of training, performing, and teaching experience. Noventa’s work has spanned across commercial, academic, and artistic settings, as well as across a wide breadth of dance genres including: classical, contemporary, urban, West African, Latin, and Afro-Caribbean dance forms. Her work has garnered her an eclectic career, allowing her to work alongside a formidable list of distinguished artists from Canada and abroad, including some of Cuba’s premiere folkloric ensembles.
