Award-winning vocalist Pandit Uday Bhawalkar takes to the Aga Khan Museum stage to present Dhrupad, one of the oldest and most pristine forms of North Indian classical music. During this entrancing event, Uday is accompanied onstage by Sri Pratap Awad on the pakhawaj, a mellow-toned drum.

Bios:
Pandit Uday Bhawalkar is a leading vocalist of Dhrupad, one of the oldest and most pristine forms of North Indian classical music. He spent more than 12 years studying in the traditional guru-shishya parampara style under Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar (vocal) and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar (rudra-veena), the towering pillars of the Dhrupad tradition. He performs regularly in India and abroad, and teaches at many institutes such as the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata and his Gurukul, a residential school, in Pune.

Sri Pratap Awad was born in a musical family of the Varkari sect of Maharashtra, India. He took to the pakhawaj at age 10, learning the bhajan accompaniment style. Later, he was selected by Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Ustad Bahauddin Dagar to study classical pakhawaj at their Gurukul in Ambe Jogai. He then moved to Pune and has since received advanced training from Pandit Uday Bhawalkar. Throughout his career, he has accompanied several senior Dhrupad artists in India as well as overseas, and also performed in solo concerts.
