We're back with a second installment of our exclusive musical compositions Music for a New Day!

Premiering on Friday, May 14 at 7 pm ET, world-renowned musician and setar master Kayhan Kalhor presents a masterclass in Avaz Afshari improvisation as he performs in a goosheh called "Eraqh."

Kalhor’s special solo instrumental, which is performed in Iran, is themed spring and renewal — a new day. Representative of a late morning in springtime, the musical composition was selected because of its moody riffs, instrumental movement, and overall tempo. Though Kalhor regularly plays the Persian kamanche, a bowed instrument, he is first and foremost a master of the Persian setar. Kiya Tabassian, musical director for our first instalment of Music for a New Day, was a student of Kalhor and considers the master his mentor.
