In fall of 2017, our Conversation Nation series of performances — linked thematically with our HERE exhibition — showcased the myriad ways cultures communicate through the performing arts. Continuing through 2018, in the wake of a year of national reflection, celebration, and dialogue, the series welcomes a range of Canadian artists engaged in work that challenges, compels, and captivates.
Building upon the October 2017 performance of Under the Syrian Musical Sky, acclaimed Montreal-based group Constantinople’s collaborative series continues with three performances in 2018. Like the group’s namesake city, this series bridges not only East and West, but also unites various traditions and special guests from across the globe.
In this performance, Constantinople joins forces with Grammy Award-nominated flutist Shashank Subramanyam, who first caught the attention of audiences at the age of six, and has since inspired a generation of Indian Carnatic musicians.
